Building Leadership for the Sector

One of the most pressing issues facing our entrepreneurs and the social sector more broadly is finding and developing the right talent and leadership to support its growth. As a result, we are focused on building the next generation of leaders as well as supporting the talent gap within our portfolio. Through our Fellows Program and the development of our team, our goal is to build a new kind of leadership - one that transcends the boundaries between the private, non-profit, and government sectors, is grounded in the practical skills required to effect change, and the moral imagination to work with entrepreneurs and their customers on their own terms. At the same time, our goal is to serve as an example of a world class non-profit institution professionally investing in the development of our team in unique and creative ways. We hope to also translate and adapt these lessons to support the recruitment and retention challenges of our investees as well.

The Fellows Program

The Acumen Fund Fellows Program is designed to cultivate leadership for the social sector while supporting our investments on their key operational challenges. Each year, it provides extraordinary young professionals with a unique opportunity to serve our investees organizations in Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, India and Pakistan and also build leadership skills for the future. Fellows have been critical in supporting our investments and at the same time extracting insights from their work that are shared with the sector more broadly.
